Special Services
The Special Services department at Oakley Elementary School offers support to students and teachers during the school day. This support may include working with the school based team to determine appropriate interventions via MTSS, working with special education requests from parents/teachers, or providing specially designed instruction for students who qualify in an area of disability as defined by IDEA and NC law.
The instruction may be provided in a pull-out program, or in an inclusion (co-teaching model) with the Special Education and General Education Teachers working together in the regular classroom. The Individual Education Program (IEP) developed by a team of parents, teachers, and specialists determines the placement and services provided for identified students.
Oakley currently has two Special Education Teachers and is also served by a Speech/Language Pathologist, an Occupational Therapist, a Physical Therapist, a School Psychologist, a Program Placement Specialist, and other related service providers as needed.
