Media Center / Library

Walton, Chelsea (Media)

Media Specialist

I have worked at Oakley Elementary School since 2005 in various positions.  I have assisted in Title  I,  taught kindergarten and third grade before moving into the Media Specialist position in the Fall of 2013.  Second to teaching, I LOVE being a student!  I graduated from UNC-Wilmington in 2005 with a B.A. in Elementary Education, Montreat College in 2010 with a M.A. in Elementary Education and Appalachian State University in 2015 with a M.A. in Library and Information Science.

Each class comes to the library once a week for media lessons and book check out.  Check with your child's teacher for their day and time.  K-1 students may check out 1 book at a time, 2-5 students may check out 2 books at a time.

Students have 2 weeks before their books are overdue.  Students do not pay fines for overdue books, only to replace lost or damaged books.

Book Fairs

Scholastic Book Fairs
Our Book Fairs are usually in September and February.  We take cash and debit or credit cards.  You can also load money into the Scholastic eWallet online so your child does not have to worry about keeping up with cash at school.  I will post that link on ClassDojo and our website.

What do we do with the money received from the book fair?

  • In a Scholastic book fair, we receive 25% of the sales in cash or 50% of sales in Scholastic dollars.

  • The sole purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money to purchase books for our library.  Other than donations, this is the only money we receive to purchase books for the library.
