Hello, Oakley families! This is Laurel Stolte, your new principal, with your first weekly message of the 2023-24 school year. We are so excited to learn and grow with your child!
Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you by Wednesday evening to introduce themselves. Then, join us for Meet the Teacher on Thursday from 2-4 pm. Due to some ongoing construction, please enter only through the front entrance; we will have staff members to help direct you. Please enter our one-way parking lot from School Road. Additional parking is available at Murphy-Oakley Park or Fellowship Asheville.
We will also have two informal events this week. School staff will be at Ledgewood Apartments from 12-1:30 on Tuesday to greet families and complete registration for any new or kindergarten students who are not yet enrolled.
On Wednesday from 10-12, representatives of our Parent-Teacher Organization would like to invite new kindergarten families to Oakley for Popsicles on the Playground. Come meet new friends, play on the playground, and enjoy a popsicle!
Our PTO also encourages ALL families to fill out our short survey (QR code attached); your engagement, in whatever way you are able, is so important to the success of our students! We will have a prize drawing among all who have completed the survey after Meet the Teacher.
The first day of school is Monday, August 28th for grades 1-5. For kindergarten, students will attend either Monday, August 28th or Tuesday, August 29th, and all kindergarten students attend beginning Wednesday, August 30th. Student dropoff is between 7:30-7:55 and pick up is between 2:30-2:45.
School supply lists are available on our school website.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday for Meet the Teacher and next week for the start of school!

If you know of a good apartment or car at a fair price or have good-quality furniture or housewares that you might be able to donate, please let Dr. Stolte know at laurel.stolte@bcsemail.org. Teachers do not have credit history in the US, but have passed extensive background checks in their home country and we can verify their employment.

Scheduling routine health check-ups and routine immunizations took a backseat during the pandemic. Now is the time to get back on track with routine care which includes being up-to-date on the vaccines.
North Carolina's student immunization schedule includes vaccines such as polio and measles, mumps, rubella (MMR). Kindergarten, seventh, and twelfth graders require certain vaccines that can be found here>>> https://immunization.dph.ncdhhs.gov/schools/k-12.htm
Make an appointment with your health care provider to get back on track today. Don’t have a health care provider? Buncombe County Health and Human Services can help. Visit buncombecounty.org/immunize for more information on their walk-in hours and appointment scheduling.
