Welcome to Third Grade! I am Miss Mac but you may also hear people call me Miss Rice (either is fine by me)

I am a first year teacher at Oakley this school year! Some of you may recognize me as Ms. Alexander's student teacher last year or from my time with the YMCA after-school program here at Oakley. I love the Oakley community and am so thrilled to be an official member of the O.A.K.S family!

I was born and raised locally and grew up through the Enka District of Buncombe County Schools. I recently graduated from the University of North Carolina Asheville with my bachelor's degree in Psychology and my K-6 teaching licensure. I had the honor of being award Student Teacher of the year for UNCA and was nominated for Student Teacher of the Year for the state of North Carolina.

In my free time, I love to hike, read and spend time with loved ones. I am a dog person and my favorite color is yellow (wait until you see our classroom!). I am the oldest of 4 children and have had a passion for education since I was a small child!

As an educator, I value diversity and equity. I strive to make my classroom a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for all.  Throughout this year, we will all make mistakes (myself included) and a strong classroom community allows us to grow from those mistakes and strive for our fullest potential.

I look forward to meeting you and enjoy a wonderful school year. Please contact me if you have any questions.
