Brown, Zack (5th Grade)

Zack Brown
This is my eighth year of teaching in Asheville and my first year at Oakley, although I've lived in Oakley for years. After graduating from Kennesaw State University in Georgia I spend two years teaching abroad at a private school in Mexico City. I am currently working towards my National Boards certification.
My wife is the librarian at Claxton Elementary and we have two daughters, 5 and 2, the oldest of which is beginning Kindergarten at Oakley in the dual language program. In my free time, I am an avid runner and also enjoy music, reading, cooking, keeping chickens and gardening.
As an educator, I believe strongly in building a class community that encourages and values diversity, kindness, collaboration, and perseverance. Giving students a voice through classroom meetings is the main way we build community. I recognize that each student is unique and I strive to meet the needs of every learner.
I am excited to be at Oakley and looking forward to an amazing year!
