Welcome to my Classroom
I am originally from NJ where I began my teaching career as an ESL teacher to students from all over the world. Since then I have also taught Spanish K-12, Reading K-5 and Adult ESL and Spanish. I am certified to teach Language Arts 6-12, ESL K-12, Spanish K-12, Reading K-12 and Reading Recovery.
My passion for teaching started when I was in kindergarten! I feel called to and specially gifted for this profession. My love for language and culture developed starting in Middle School where I met my first hispanic friend. I have studied in Spain, as well as traveled through Spain, Italy, Belgium, France and Switzerland. I also lived and studied in Mexico for a year and have since visited several times.
I have served as a bilingual medical interpreter for Park Ridge Hospital where I especially enjoyed working in the maternity department helping birth babies!
I moved to Hendersonville, NC in 1987 where I currently reside with my husband, 21 year old Navy Reservist son, and 3 darling cats. My husband and I love gardening and have lots of flower, vegetable and fruit tree gardens.
My father's parents were from Slovakia. I feel blessed to have had a multi-cultural family experience. I also loved being raised in an area of the country that was very rich in cultural diversity.
I am so happy to be working with the wonderful staff and children at Oakley Elementary and look forward to a fun-filled year of learning and growth both for my students and myself.
